The Oculus Quest 2 is a fanastic VR device. It delivers some incredibly sharp visuals and has some of the best controllers in the market. It also has something that no other VR headset has and that’s wireless capability.

While you can connect your Oculus Quest 2 to your PC, the real value comes in the free nature of the wireless capability and you’ll no longer worry about getting all tangled up in everything.

If there is one thing that is an issue with the Oculus Quest 2, it’s the head strap. The strap that comes with it out of the box is almost unusable. It sits uncomfortably on your head, it doesn’t allow the lenses to be centered properly and overall just feels cheap. To go along with those issues, the initial strap puts an absurd amount of pressure on the front of your head which makes lengthy play sessions tough to do as you’ll undoubtedly develop a headache from this pressure. This strap is so good that it’s painful that it doesn’t just come with the Oculus Quest 2 from the get-go. Regardless though, it makes using the headset infinitely more enjoyable. What comes with this product is a brand new strap that secures tightly and comfortably with your head along with a battery pack that adds considerable battery life to the Oculus Quest 2 as well.

The biggest change with this strap is the dial in the back. With the original headset strap, you basically just pull the strap until you feel it’s tight enough, but this gave you zero flexibility in how you would position the headset on your head. The new strap allows not the only difference in the tightness of the headset but also allows you to position the Oculus Quest 2 at different spots on the back of your head which can greatly help you find the sweet spot in the clarity. The new strap also makes it so that the pressure from the initial strap gets more evenly distributed.

The result is the majority of the tightness that permeated the initial strap is more focused on the back of your head. This makes it far more comfortable and any neck soreness you may feel after play sessions will be alleviated because of this.

This is usually an undersold part of VR and a lot of players will find it tough to get the exact clarity they’re looking for because of it. While you can adjust the eye distance all you want, unless you have your strap properly located on your head, you will never get the perfect visuals you’re looking for.

Setup

The setup for everything is very simple and the first thing you need to do is take off the original strap. You’ll see two white pieces that are attached to the sides and what you need to do here is snap these off. Don’t worry, they won’t break and they’ll snap right off. After you get rid of that ugly thing, snap on the Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery. You’ll be putting this on the exact same way as you took the other one-off.

After you do that, the next thing you want to do is plug in the cable that runs along the left side of the strap. This plugs in and essentially doubles your battery life and turns the pathetic lifespan of the Oculus 2 into a 4+ hour experience if you want it to.

These are the only pieces you need to worry about and once they’re connected, you’ll be ready to go. Keep in mind that you do need to recharge the battery pack as well as the Oculus Quest 2, so I would advise that you charge the Oculus Quest 2 before you charge the battery pack so that you’ll always have the base device charged even if the battery pack runs out. You generally won’t need the battery pack each session unless you’re playing for 2+ hours so just treat it as a bonus that you can turn to for more battery life if you need it.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that if you’re using the Oculus Link cable to connect to your PC, you will not be able to charge the Oculus Quest 2 while you play. The reason for this is that the battery pack plugs into the same slot, so you can only have one or the other plugged in.

Negatives

Some people might find it a bit unclear on how to put the device together at the start and it’s understandable that some people will have hesitation here because you’re dealing with a $3-400 dollar device here. You might be worried about breaking something and that makes sense because the initial strap is not going to come off without a fight.

I could say you don’t have to worry about this happening because the initial strap is atrocious anyway and you’ll no longer have any use for it, but people don’t like breaking things in general and the Oculus Quest 2 Elite Strap with Battery could certainly have a more clear setup and easier to assemble process.

The other negative depends on what type of VR player. For those who use VR to watch movies and other media, largely while seated, they might find the initial strap is better for leaning your head back against the couch or chair. It’s clear that the Oculus Quest 2 Strap with Battery is focused on players who will be standing and seriously active for the duration of their playstyle.

Considering that the majority of VR players are playing to experience the games, this tradeoff is understandable and if you really want to switch back to watching movies or other things, you can just switch them using the above methods.
