Roblox is one of the most interactive and outrightly one of the most customizable games on any platform right now. The game offers users the ability to create, build and design environments to their liking and to play with friends and users from around the world. When the focus of the game rests so heavily on the immediate environment of the user and also the fact that the game is played entirely from the first-person perspective, it is an excellent experience to have in Virtual Reality as well.
The game does its best to offer a truly immersive experience to first-person VR lovers. If you want to experience this and are wondering what the Best VR Headset for Roblox is, then this is the article for you.
Let’s not waste any time and get started!
Bottom Line Up Front
My favorite headset to go for when considering a VR headset for playing Roblox is the Oculus Rift S. It’s priced decently and has one of the most comfortable head straps of any VR headset on the market. Mobility in the game for your head and neck is super important, and this headset is perfect for this sort of thing.
It’s also a tethered headset, meaning it comes with a dedicated high-performance core which means it will be able to keep up with the more demanding games and modes within Roblox as well as be able to cope with some of the more recent VR games. This sets it apart from the Oculus Quest 2, which would otherwise be my headset of choice.
However, there are other headsets on the list that cover a large span of selection criteria that I will list in the sections below. Some of these perform better in one department than others. This means that I have three top picks for you if the Rift S is not particularly suited to your use. These are discussed in the following section.
My Top Picks
- The Oculus Rift S is my top pick, largely because of its comfort as well as the fact that it is affordable. The Rift S also has one of the most consistent processors in the VR market, and this means that it can cope with the rigors of Roblox easily.
- The Oculus Quest 2 is my second pick for this category. It’s a solid headset and has the added option of being used wirelessly, albeit at the risk of some latency.
- The HTC Vive Pro 2 is outrightly the most powerful and the most visually stunning VR rig. It’s an absolute beast that aces every category it competes in. Unfortunately, it is on the more expensive side.
Selection Criteria
The criteria for selecting headsets specifically for Roblox is not very different from most other VR games that run in the first person. The first things to consider are the weight and the design of the headset, particularly how comfortably the head strap rests on top of your head while playing.
Secondly, I would consider the display and the field of view to be very important aspects of the headset. Roblox is a first-person game, and this means that a wide field of view along with a visually stunning display is ideal for Roblox.
Thirdly, the processing power of the headset and its ability to cope with some of the more rigorous Roblox games and maps is a criterion. I think that the processing power will set some headsets apart in this list.
The price of the headset is another factor that will be considered since every user will not be on the same end of the price spectrum. I will aim to cover headsets spanning a wide range of prices so you can pick which one suits your needs best.
Lastly, the controllers and their integration with Roblox will be considered. This will also include how immersive the controllers of the headset make the game.
After a short section on how to set up Roblox VR, let’s jump right into the list!
How to Set Up Roblox VR
To play Roblox in Virtual Reality, you’ll need a VR headset and a PC that can run games in Virtual Reality. You can connect your PC to your VR headset and then follow the steps that are roughly the same for most headsets.
- Enable the VR extension for Roblox. Once you’ve connected your PC to the headset, you’ll see the VR mode toggle in Roblox. Turn that to “on.” The toggle is under Menu>Settings>VR.
- Open SteamVR if you have an HTC Vive device. If you have an Oculus device, skip to Step 4.
- Once you’ve opened SteamVR, make sure you turn on your Vive Controllers and check that all the status lights for the Hardware on the Steam VR app are green.
- If you have an Oculus headset, go to the Oculus App on the PC you’re connected to.
- Go to Gear Settings>General and toggle the Unknown Sources option to appear as a checked setting instead of a disabled one.
- Confirm your selection.
- Now, go to Play on a Roblox experience that can be found at their website at https://www.roblox.com/discover/
- Once you’re in the game, you’ll see a screen don’t the headset you’re using that indicates that you can select VR mode.
- You can go ahead and start your Roblox VR experience now!
Best VR Headsets for Roblox
Oculus Rift S
The Oculus Rift S is a lightweight headset coming in at only some 563g. The headset also has one of the most smartly designed and constructed head straps of any VR headset. This is a headset you can wear for extended periods of time and not have to worry about comfort.
The Rift S offers a 2560 x 1440p display with an 80Hz refresh rate. While this is an LCD panel, it is by no means a poor display and has almost no glare issues. The Oculus also has a particularly wide field of view at 115 degrees, meaning you’ll be able to see a lot more than what’s directly in front of you. It’s always good to have a wider periphery in Roblox.
The Oculus Rift S uses your PC for processing which means that if your PC can run Roblox without hiccups, the Oculus will not struggle, as it will draw power from the PC itself.
The Oculus Rift S was released at a price of $399, making it one of the most readily available and affordable headsets that can be tethered to a PC.
The controllers of the Oculus Rift S also offer support for Roblox, so you won’t have to worry about playing with an Xbox controller as you can use the controllers that come with the headset to play the game.
Due to the comfort of the headset and its tethered nature, I think it’s a clear pick as the best option for most users who want to play Roblox in VR. It’s affordable as far as VR headsets go and has a solid display and a pair of interactive touch controllers. If these things are a high priority on your list, then you can consider this headset.
Pros
- Weight, Headstrap, Price
Cons
- None
Oculus Quest 2
The Oculus Quest 2 is the standalone option from the company, meant for lighter gaming. However, more recently, it has received an update allowing it to be used as a tethered headset.
The Oculus Quest 2 weighs in at only 500g and has an excellent halo-style head strap providing maximum comfort to its users. It’s one of the most comfortable headsets, and since it can be used as a wireless one with the Oculus Air Link, you can feel even more comfortable without the added issues and weight from the wiring.
The Quest 2 offers an 1832 x 1920 display per eye. This LCD panel can go up to 120Hz, making it one of the most responsive displays at its price. The field of view on the headset, however, is a little lacking at about 89 degrees. This means you can generally only see what’s directly in front of you.
The Oculus Quest 2 has a Snapdragon XR2 chipset which is designed specifically for VR headsets. It also houses an Adreno 650 GPU. While these are a little lacking compared to tethered headsets, it is not a deal-breaker since Roblox can run on this headset when connected via a Link Cable. However, because of the low processing power, you may face latency issues when trying to play wirelessly.
The Quest 2 is the cheapest headset on this list, coming in at only $300 for the base model. This makes it very tempting to purchase as a versatile device for light VR gaming.
The Quest 2 controllers can run natively with Roblox games, as they are largely the same scheme as the Oculus Rift S controllers, which are also supported.
All in all, the Oculus Quest 2 is a great versatile headset that offers a lot of features at its low price point and its lightweight and comfortable design. If you’re looking for lighter sessions and a little more versatility from your headset experience, then this is the way to go. It’s one of my favorite headsets to recommend, and it does not disappoint with Roblox games except for the occasional stutter.
Pros
- Wight, Headstrap, Wireless option, Price
Cons
- Processor and graphics
HTC Vive Pro 2
The HTC Vive Pro 2 is the most powerful headset from the company. It’s meant to be a complete VR rig in itself and aims to leave its users not wanting for more with the comprehensive package it offers.
The HTC Vive Pro 2 is on the heavier side of headsets, weighing in at 850g. It is, however, supported by one of the most comfortable head straps out there. SO, if you can cope with the weight, it will not feel like you’re even wearing the headset at points because the head strap is designed to perfection.
The Vive Pro 2 offers a sharp 2448 x 2448p display. This 120Hz display offers a field of view of up to 120 degrees, meaning you’ll be a lot more immersed in your surroundings in VR. It’s also very sharp and uses a Dual RGB low persistence LCD panel, meaning the contrast will be better than the older LCD panels on this list. The IPD is also adjustable, which means you’ll have maximum visual comfort when using this headset.
The headset is tethered and draws power from your PC, which means that it will easily be able to cope with VR Roblox games, depending on your PC’s hardware.
The Vive Pro 2 is priced at $799, making it one of the more expensive headsets on this list. However, if you consider the display, sound, and connectivity you’re getting, it could actually be considered to be a good deal.
The controllers of the Vive Pro 2 are supported in Roblox VR, which is an added plus.
Overall, if you can afford the headset, then it is a great option to consider for VR gaming and Roblox VR gaming. The visuals are stunning, and the only possible downside I can think of with this headset is the glare from the displays occasionally.
Pros
- Display, IPD adjustment, head strap
Cons
- Weight, Price, Glare
Valve Index
The Valve Index aims to be a complete VR gaming package.
It weighs in at 809g, which means it’s lighter than the Vive Pro. However, the head strap is not amongst the most comfortable, and you will notice the heavier weight a lot more than you would have on the Vive Pro 2.
The headset offers a 1440 x 1600p per-eye resolution. The display is an LCD panel. However, it can scale up to 144Hz. This is the most responsive display on this list, and it’s a lot of fun to play VR games on the headset. It’s one of my favorite displays since I value refresh rate over the resolution. The field of view is 130 degrees which is one of the widest on this list. It’s a great display for anyone who values these two things.
The headset is tethered and uses your PC to run its hardware, so it will run Roblox games smoothly, subject to your PC’s performance.
The Valve Index is the most expensive headset on my list at $999. However, for the display and the complete setup that it offers, it’s a good option to consider for someone who can afford to operate in that price range.
There is no support for Valve Index controllers on Roblox games, so you will be using Xbox controllers to play the game.
Overall, it’s an excellent headset, with the only issue being the price of the headset and controller compatibility issues within the game. If you can look past that and can afford the headset, the display is an excellent aspect that will not leave you disappointed.
Pros
- Display, Field of view, Refresh Rate
Cons
- Price, Controller compatibility
Samsung HMD Odyssey+
The HMD Odyssey+ from Samsung is aimed at being the best display headset on the market. With an interesting Windows interface, it’s a unique headset with one of the best displays on the market.
The HMD Odyssey+ weighs in at 798 grams and has a comfortable head strap that negates the weight feeling heavy to a large extent. The foam construction of the head strap, as well as the halo design, make the headset easier to wear than something like the Valve Index.
The HMD Odyssey+ has a 1440 x 1600p AMOLED display. this is the best display on any VR headset, in my opinion. In fact, the blacks are truly black because of the AMOLED panel. The field of view is 110 degrees which are enough for Roblox.
The HMD Odyssey+ is a tethered headset that connects to your PC to play games. It should have no issues running Roblox games, subject to your PC’s specifications.
The HMD Odyssey+ is in the middle of the price spectrum at a release price of $499. It’s not too expensive, and if you think about the quality of the display, it’s not too expensive.
The controllers on the headset are, however, not supported on the Roblox app, so you will have to use the Xbox controller to play the game.
If the display of the headset is your priority, this one is the way to go. The AMOLED is absolutely worth it, in my opinion.
Pros
- Display, Windows
Cons
- Price, Headstrap
